From "A Drop of Golden Sun" tumblr, written by: pronetoinsanity.tumblr.com/

The baby had her eyes, not his, surprisingly enough. Bright and full of life and even as an infant he could tell they would be just like her in many ways.

And that hurt more than he could fathom at the present time. He knew that shock would pass and grief would set in slowly, akin to the way a sun sets - figuratively and literally. At the moment, he couldn’t say he felt anything in particular. He had held his resentments towards her, like a small child whose favorite toy had been broken and he held a grudge. Thousands of years of turmoil in their relationship lead up to this - a child. His child - their child. All of this.. havoc and eventual renewal of love and she was gone.

It was like a bad joke. Those stupid, awful jokes that had horrible punch lines and people would brush them off because that’s all they were. However this was his life and as much as he reveled in humor, he honestly couldn’t see his future as anything other than bleak and dull. The spirit was angry, for a time, at the child itself. As if they had been the cause for taking her away. It was selfish and he knew it and he moved past it, finding it easier to simply feel nothing at all. He could blame the doctors, the nurses - he could.. could kill them for all the shock that had wracked his core.

Though it wouldn’t be any use; she was still gone.

Coddling the infant was the smallest comfort, those curious eyes wondering why their father had held tears until he was by himself, wondering why they rarely saw him speaking with anyone else, wondering why he occasionally mumbled to himself. Others had offered to take the baby, because of his grieving, on several occasions, and he found himself grow defensive. No, this was his child, his offspring and he knew that she would want him to take care of them. He would give his child all the love he could muster because they were a part of her - the last bit left from a tragedy even his magic couldn’t reverse.

I gotta admit, this one kinda got to me...
